Binah.ai Announces Video-based Blood Test Ability Using a Smartphone Camera
Friday, September 23, 2022

Binah.ai SDK is now able to measure hemoglobin, hemoglobin A1C and total cholesterol using a smartphone camera

LAS VEGAS, Sept. 20, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Binah.ai, the number one provider of AI-powered software that enables video-based measurement of physiological health and wellness parameters, announced today its revolutionary ability to measure blood count (hemoglobin levels), blood chemistry (hemoglobin A1C) and lipids (cholesterol total) results by simply having users look at a smartphone camera.

"Without a doubt, this is a groundbreaking milestone for Binah.ai, and might be the first step towards bloodless blood tests. Our technology demonstrates promising results in measuring this crucial health data, which, alongside the rest of the vital signs we already deliver, is expected to create a shift in health and wellness monitoring," said David Maman, Co-Founder and CEO of Binah.ai. "Leaping from painful and infrequent blood tests, which billions of people can hardly access, to having them available anytime one needs using just a smartphone camera is pretty revolutionary! Video-based blood tests could have a game-changing impact on the healthcare, insurance and wellness industries. Together, we can help bridge the gaps in healthcare and wellness and ensure that no one gets left behind due to a lack of access," added Maman.

Binah.ai's award-winning technology, delivered in the form of a Software Development Kit (SDK), already enables the measurement of a wide range of health parameters, including blood pressure, heart rate, heart rate variability (multiple parameters and RRI raw data), oxygen saturation, breathing rate, sympathetic stress, parasympathetic activity, and pulse-respiration quotient (PRQ) in approximately 60 seconds. Using the measured data, Binah.ai also delivers a personal wellness score.

How it works
Numerous scientific studies from the past few years demonstrate a proven capacity for noninvasive techniques using near-infrared sensors (NIR) to generate a Photoplethysmography (PPG) signal to measure blood components, like cholesterol and lipids. At Binah.ai we were able to stretch these capabilities by generating a high-quality PPG signal remotely, using AI models and standard RGB cameras, available in most smart devices today.

How results are displayed
Following a 60-second scan of the end-users face, the technology displays all vital signs results in addition to blood test results, which are currently under "research" status. The blood test results are detailed as follows:

-- Blood count: Hemoglobin levels are displayed as a number in g/dL (grams
per deciliter) and range from Low (<14 for men and <12 for women),
and Normal (14-18 for men and 12-16 for women), to High (>18 for men
        and >16 for women).
-- Blood chemistry: Hemoglobin A1C levels are displayed as a percentage,
ranging from Normal (<5.6%), Prediabetes risk (5.7 - 6.4%), to
        Diabetes Risk High (>6.5%).
-- Lipids: Cholesterol total (the total amount of cholesterol in someone's
blood, including both low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and
high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol) will be displayed in mg/dL
(milligrams per deciliter) with the following range: Normal (<200),
        Borderline High (200 - 239) and High (>239).

Why is this important?
Periodic blood tests are critical in detecting health issues, yet many individuals skip the test due to fear of giving blood or limited access to clinics that provide these services. Making blood tests available through smartphone cameras would enable healthcare providers to enhance preventive care and help patients take the proper action to ensure their well-being. For the insurance industry, for example, hemoglobin A1C is a crucial risk indicator that could be used for underwriting and STP processes.

Where can you try it?
Binah.ai will be showcasing its solution on Sept. 21-22 at this year's Insurtech Connect show in Las Vegas. Show participants and press members are invited to get a demo at the company's booth (#3319).
