Varnish Software and STL Partners Unveil New Research into the Evolution of Content Delivery

New Strategies for Edge Computing, CDN Models and Disaggregation Are Essential to Support Increasingly Demanding Digital Experiences

LOS ANGELES, March 8, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Varnish Software, a leader in caching, streaming, and content delivery software solutions, and industry analyst firm STL Partners today announced new research into the fast-changing trends, challenges, and opportunities shaping the future of digital content creation, consumption, monetization, and delivery.

The new report includes key strategies that telcos, CSPs, content providers and others can begin implementing today to improve web & API performance, ensure resilience during high concurrency, deliver low latency content, and support next-gen use cases. The complete findings will be unveiled during a free webinar on March 16, 2023 at 8:00 am PDT.

"From the rise of live, high-quality video streams on multiple devices to increased 5G rollouts, new technology is radically and rapidly changing the landscape. These massive advancements are creating new expectations for content while unlocking opportunities for businesses to monetize their infrastructure and assets," said Ulrika Cederskog Sundling, Chief Growth Officer at Varnish Software. "Using edge to support content delivery networks will be one of the biggest advantages, enabling any organization to cache content closer to end users, in a flexible and scalable manner."

Of note, the research found that the edge computing market will generate $178 billion by 2026, with edge content delivery contributing to 18% of total addressable revenue. This change will be pivotal to delivering and scaling higher quality OTT video and live streaming, data-heavy software updates, more immersive digital experiences, and the growing need for seamlessly accessible content on a myriad of mobile and IoT devices.

The report and webinar also outline emerging strategies that will be critical to capitalizing on the changing state of content, including:

-- Migrating traditional CDNs and caching models to the edge to better
utilize bandwidth, lower latency and provide more flexible and scalable
        services.

-- Disaggregating content delivery architecture and decoupling hardware
from software to gain greater visibility, control and choice when
        implementing new technologies.
-- Introducing more performant infrastructure with a greater throughput per
watt ratio to control costs and minimize the carbon footprint, while
still ensuring a flawless digital experience

"The way we create and consume digital content is undergoing a significant shift, with an ever-increasing amount of content alongside changes in viewer expectations and new experiences being offered," said Ani Keshishyan, Consultant, STL Partners. "Rapidly, we see edge computing, hardware and software disaggregation, and more performant infrastructure as key pillars supporting next-generation content delivery. Varnish Software is at the forefront of these key trends."

The upcoming one-hour webinar "From CDN to Edge Content Delivery: Quantifying the Big Opportunity" will feature in-depth discussions with experts as well as a short Q&A. Attendees will learn:

-- What are the key industry trends impacting the future of content
        delivery?
-- What does edge content delivery network (CDN) really mean considering
CDN has always been distributed in nature?
-- What is the size of the potential opportunity coming from edge
        computing?

Research was conducted via in-depth interviews with senior executives from leading video service providers, streamers, video technology companies and other major industry players impacted the most by the evolution of content. The study also builds off of STL Partners' other recent edge computing research.
