Batesville Tool & Die, Inc. Provides Notification of Data Security Incident

Batesville, IN - Batesville Tool & Die, Inc. ("BTD") has become aware of a data security incident that may have impacted personal information and protected health information belonging to certain individuals.

On July 6, 2023, BTD discovered that it was victimized by a sophisticated ransomware attack that impacted its network. Upon discovery, BTD immediately began working with its I.T. team and third-party computer specialists to investigate the full nature and scope of the incident. BTD also reported this incident to federal law enforcement. While the investigation was still ongoing, BTD determined that certain employee data, kept in the normal course of business, may have been subject to unauthorized access. BTD provided written notice to potentially impacted employees on July 19, 2023.

At the same time, BTD continued its investigation. Through the investigation, BTD discovered that information related to additional current/former employees, employee spouses, and/or dependents, may also have been impacted.

The type of information contained within the potentially affected data may include first and last name, in combination with one or more of the following: date of birth, Social Security number, driver's license number, passport number, financial account number, routing number, payment card information, tax identification number, biometric data, usernames and passwords, health insurance information, and/or medical diagnosis/medical treatment information.

Upon learning of the potential access of information, BTD immediately undertook a thorough review of the affected information to identify all potentially affected individuals. BTD then worked diligently to identify contact information for those potentially affected individuals in order to provide them with notice of the incident. BTD is now providing written notice to the additionally identified employees, spouses, and dependents.

At this time, BTD is not aware of any evidence to suggest that any information has been misused. Nonetheless, BTD is providing notice to potentially affected individuals out of an abundance of caution. In response to this incident, BTD has implemented additional security measures within its network and facilities and is reviewing its current policies and procedures related to data security. Individuals are encouraged to monitor their account statements and explanation of benefits forms for suspicious activity and to detect errors.

BTD has established a toll-free hotline to answer questions about the incident and to address related concerns. The number for the hotline is 833-627-2695. In addition, BTD has notified the three major credit reporting agencies, the U.S. Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights and any applicable state regulators of this incident.

The privacy and protection of information is a top priority for BTD, and BTD deeply regrets any inconvenience or concern this incident may cause.
