Wednesday, November 1, 2023

Growing need for news, articles and research to serve eating disorders professionals calls for expanded clinical resource

PEKIN, Ill., Oct. 24, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Eating Disorders Review, the renowned clinical journal and go-to source for eating disorder professionals about research, diagnosis, treatment and emerging practices, is expanding its scope and outreach to meet growing needs.

"Eating Disorders continue to increase on a global scale - especially since the pandemic and prolific use of social media - so must the journal continually grow and develop to meet the needs of professionals. Our readers are international, cover a broad range of specialties, and are a tight-knit community that wants to be at the forefront of evolving studies," said Editor-in-Chief Scott Crow, MD. "For that reason, we are making changes to enhance the publication."

The Review has added three new co-editors:

Anne Marie O'Melia, MS, MD, CEDS-S, medical staff at Eating Recovery Center, Denver. She is a triple board-certified physician in Pediatrics and General Psychiatry. She also holds subspecialty board certifications in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and in Psychosomatic Medicine. Dr. O'Melia has co-authored multiple articles and book chapters on eating disorders and served as a co-investigator for various clinical trials related to psychopharmacology in the treatment of eating disorders and mood disorders. Dr. O'Melia has been named one of the "Best Doctors in America" every year since 2007.

John Levitt, PhD, CEDS-S, FAED, has more than 40 years of experience working with eating disorders, self-injury, trauma, and complex patients. He has been an active participant in the field of eating disorders and trauma as a clinician, program developer, supervisor/trainer, and presenter. He has taught widely, co-authored one book, co-edited three other books, and numerous publications as well. Dr. Levitt specializes in working with individuals who struggle with trauma-related issues, eating disorders and/or self-harm and provides a safe, respectful, supportive environment where clients can learn to manage themselves and enhance the quality of their lives

Leah Graves, RDN, LDN, CEDS-S, FAED, is currently Vice President of Nutrition and Culinary Services at Accanto Health, the Emily Program, and Veritas Health, Saint Paul, MN. A founding member of the Academy for Eating Disorders, Leah has treated patients with eating disorders for more than 30 years. She has written several publications pertaining to nutrition and eating disorders and has special expertise in medical nutrition therapy, nutrition counseling, clinical supervision, and research.

In addition, readers will now be able to comment on each article, sharing thoughts, ideas, and ways to embed the research in their practice - or even to debate the merits of a study and its results. Starting with the November/December issue, there will also be a direct link for prospective authors.

"It's important to Eating Disorders Review that we foster a sense of community and idea-sharing. Research is not done in a vacuum, so our practice shouldn't be in isolation either," said Crow.

Since 1990, the online journal's goal has been to bring readers the latest news and original articles on the diagnosis and treatment of all eating disorders, including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, and other specified feeding or eating disorders. In 2015, the Review began translating its content into Spanish.

The monthly journal is complimentary for iaedp(TM) members. It is just one of the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals many resources for professionals and practitioners.
