Wednesday, March 27, 2024

March 22, 2024. Moorhead, Minnesota. The Pifer Group is providing notice of an incident involving potential unauthorized access to personal information of employees and customers.

On August 9, 2023, The Pifer Group became aware of suspicious activity in our computer network. We immediately took steps to secure our network and minimize any disruption to our operations. We launched an investigation into the nature and scope of the incident with the assistance of third-party cybersecurity specialists. The investigation determined that an unknown actor gained access to certain parts of our network between August 4, 2023 and August 9, 2023. Therefore, out of an abundance of caution, we are providing notice to all individuals whose information may be impacted by this event.

The Pifer Group determined that the impacted servers contained personal information relating to certain individuals. The information varies per individual but may have included the following: name, Social Security number, financial account information, payment card information, driver's license number, state identification number, date of birth, medical information, health insurance information, employer-assigned identification number, employer identification number, IRS PIN, and/or username and password. On March 21, 2024, we began mailing notification letters to certain individuals whose information may have been involved in a data security incident and for whom we had contact information.

While we have no evidence that individual's information has been misused for the purpose of committing fraud or identity theft, individuals whose information may have been involved are encouraged to review the notification they receive, including guidance on what they can do to protect themselves, should they feel it appropriate to do so.

We value individuals' privacy and deeply regret any concern this may cause. We are taking all steps necessary to respond to this incident. To help prevent something like this from happening again, we are reviewing existing security policies and implementing additional cybersecurity measures.
