Award-Winning National Public Television Series "Weekends with Yankee" Returns this Spring for Season Eight

Co-hosts Richard Wiese and Amy Traverso take viewers on exciting adventures, explore hidden gems and favorite destinations, interview artisans and entrepreneurs who call New England home, highlight the best food destinations, and cook up New England-inspired recipes.

BOSTON, March 22, 2024 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Starting this April, Weekends with Yankee, the lifestyle television series about New England from public media powerhouse GBH and Yankee magazine--the beloved publication of New England--will return for its eighth season. Check local listings or WeekendswithYankee.com for airdates and times on your local public television station.

This exciting continuation of the award-winning series will again take viewers on an exploration of the cities, small towns, and far-flung places throughout the region, all while celebrating its culture, history, and beauty. Season eight highlights the area's strong entrepreneurial spirit as it introduces viewers to New England artisans, chefs, farmers, innovators, and craftspeople who are passionate about what they do.

Weekends with Yankee is co-hosted by Richard Wiese, an Emmy Award-winning TV personality (Born to Explore), author, and explorer who has traveled to all seven continents, participated in two expeditions to Antarctica, and cross-country skied to the North Pole. He is joined by co-host and Yankee senior food editor Amy Traverso, author of the award-winning The Apple Lover's Cookbook (W.W. Norton) and co-host of the popular food podcast Talking with My Mouth Full, who highlights the local flavors and recipes that make up New England's food scene.

Season 8 brings these new segments, among others:

    --  Richard takes the ultimate biking tour on the Cross New Hampshire
        Adventure Trail.
    --  Amy visits a pioneering sea scallop farm in Stonington, Maine, one of
        Maine's most picturesque fishing harbors, then whips up lobster pasta at
        Aragosta, a landmark restaurant on Deer Isle.
    --  Richard experiences a New England rodeo at the Pond Hill Ranch in
        Vermont, an event that draws competitors from across the country.
    --  Amy visits Cape Cod's iconic sand dunes to pick wild beach plums, then
        makes beach plum jam at Lighthouse Keeper's Pantry in Yarmouth Port,
        Massachusetts.
    --  Richard tries his hand at hydrofoiling on New Hampshire's Lake
        Winnipesaukee.
    --  Amy visits a women-owned oyster farm on Maine's Georgetown Island, then
        makes her favorite oyster recipe at Seguin, a luxury treehouse resort
        nearby.
    --  Richard rides the rapids of New England's only whitewater park by raft,
        boogie board, and kayak in Franklin, New Hampshire.
    --  Richard sees the gardens in bloom at White Flower Farm in Litchfield,
        Connecticut, and gets tips on planting begonias, ferns, and more, then
        meets the artisans at nearby Dumais Made ceramics.
    --  Richard discovers Gilded Age elegance at The Chanler at Cliff Walk in
        Newport, Rhode Island, and hits the courts at the International Tennis
        Hall of Fame.

Executive producer of the series is Laurie Donnelly (Lidia Celebrates America, Rare: Creatures of the Photo Ark, Moveable Feast with Relish, Simply Ming). Series funding for Weekends with Yankee is provided by New Hampshire Division of Travel & Tourism Development, Maine Office of Tourism, Massachusetts Office of Travel & Tourism, The Barn Yard, American Cruise Lines, and Grady-White Boats.
