Saturday, April 20, 2024
Washington, D.C. - American Farmland Trust ("AFT") has become aware of a data security incident that may have impacted information belonging to certain individuals.
On August 1, 2023, AFT discovered suspicious activity related to one employee email account. Upon discovery, AFT immediately took steps to secure its email system and network, and began an investigation to confirm the nature and scope of the incident, aided by third-party forensic specialists. The investigation determined that the email account was subject to access by an unauthorized third party. Following a thorough analysis, it was determined that information contained in the affected email account may have included personally identifiable information ("PII"). The type of information contained within the affected email account includes first and last names, in combination with one or more of the following: date of birth, Social Security number, driver's license number, passport number, financial account number, routing number, and/or payment card information.
Upon learning of the potential access of information, together with third-party specialists, AFT undertook a thorough review of the affected information to identify all potentially affected individuals. AFT then began a time-consuming review of its internal records to identify contact information for those potentially affected. This comprehensive review process was recently completed, and AFT is now providing notice accordingly.
At this time, AFT is not aware of any evidence to suggest that any information has been misused. Nonetheless, AFT provided notice to potentially affected individuals out of an abundance of caution. In response to this incident, AFT has implemented additional security measures within its network and is reviewing its current policies and procedures related to data security. Although AFT has no reason to believe any individual's information has been or will be misused as a result of this incident, individuals are nonetheless encouraged to monitor their credit reports and account statements for suspicious activity and to detect errors.
AFT has established a toll-free number to answer questions about the incident and to address related concerns. The number to call is 1-800-405-6108. Representatives are available to assist you with questions regarding this incident between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern time, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.
