REALTECH Publishes White Paper: 'The Microsoft Platform in the SAP Data Center'
Thursday, November 05, 2009

SAP experts at REALTECH analyze the Microsoft platform in SAP data centers and expose tangible optimization opportunities for SAP customers

MALVERN, Pa., Nov. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- REALTECH, a SAP consultancy and manufacturer of IT service and application management solutions, today announced the publication of a study on the use of the Microsoft server platform in SAP data centers.

The study, which was conducted by REALTECH, found that the Microsoft platform allows companies to run their performance-intensive SAP applications in a very cost-effective manner. The reason behind this: The new generation of Windows servers is able to make the most of the enormous computing power of commodity servers that are based on the x86-64 CPU architecture. This boosts the performance of SAP applications running on these servers.

Furthermore, companies can reduce their ongoing operating costs through the use of Microsoft SQL Server 2008. This is made possible by the integrated high availability features of SQL Server 2008 and the optimized disk space consumption of the database.

The integration of SAP applications with existing Microsoft solutions such as Active Directory or SharePoint creates technical and organizational synergies that positively affect the TCO.

In August, REALTECH published a study on the use of Linux in SAP data centers. This latest study now shines a light on the use of the Microsoft server platform for SAP customers. Over the past years, new CPU architectures have yielded annual performance improvements of approximately 42 percent in available server systems, making them interesting for an increasing number of SAP data centers.

With its Windows Server 2008 R2, which supports up to eight physical CPUs in the Enterprise Edition and 64 physical CPUs in the Datacenter Edition, and its Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2, which supports up to 256 logical CPUs, Microsoft has created a platform that is very appealing to SAP customers.

REALTECH's experts have now published their findings in a white paper. The complete study can be downloaded at www.realtech.com/microsoft.
