Course to educate private sector and U.S. government leaders on the intersection of space exploration and business
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. , Jan. 23, 2025 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- MIT Sloan Executive Education, today, announces the launch of "Business Applications of Space Exploration (BASE)," a course designed to help business and government leaders define business strategies, workforce capabilities and tactical toolkits for present and next-era space exploration. This five-day, in-person course, taking place from September 22-26, 2025, aims to provide leaders with a deeper understanding of the economics, innovation, policy, and entrepreneurship surrounding space exploration, and how to apply frameworks and models to real-world business problems and scenarios.
As space technologies continue to evolve, their applications across industries will only expand, fueling innovation and economic growth in unexpected ways. This groundbreaking, application-based course explores the intersection of space exploration and business. It also presents a cutting-edge framework for evaluating business opportunities on Earth and in the "forever frontier" of space that are currently unimagined or difficult to measure.
Kerri Cahoy, Sheila Evans Widnall (1960) Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics at MIT leads this course alongside Paul McDonagh-Smith, Senior Lecturer, Information Technology, at MIT's Sloan School of Management, other world-class faculty across MIT's campus, and industry experts.
"Space exploration is no longer just the domain of governments and scientists--it's a transformative frontier for business innovation and economic growth," said McDonagh-Smith. "This course empowers leaders with the knowledge and tools they need to navigate the complexities of this new era."
Key takeaways from this course, include:
-- Patterns and strategic approaches that can be transferred to
organizations in any industry.
-- Innovative business models and funding mechanisms that are shaping the
next phase of space exploration.
-- Cutting-edge technologies driving space exploration, including AI,
robotics, and computing, and how they can be applied to create value in
your business.
-- How to navigate the legal and regulatory challenges to position your
organization for success in space-related ventures.
On Wednesday, January 29, Senior Lecturer Paul McDonagh-Smith and NASA's Dr. James B. Garvin will be hosting a LinkedIn Live webinar in celebration of this course. "Why Space Exploration Matters for Your Industry," will be a live conversation about how space exploration is transforming industries on Earth and reveal the opportunities waiting in the "forever frontier."
