China Media Group is set to host the 2025 Lantern Festival Gala, celebrating the traditional Chinese festival with communities in China and around the world. A promotional video for the gala has been released.
The Lantern Festival, which falls on the 15th day of the first month of the Chinese lunar calendar, takes place on February 12 this year. It marks the conclusion of the Spring Festival celebrations and is a day for reunions.
During this time, people gather to appreciate colorful lanterns, enjoy dragon and lion dances, solve riddles, and eat sweet glutinous rice balls known as yuanxiao. The festival is also a time to express wishes and hopes for the future.
The Year of the Snake started on January 29, 2025, marking the first Spring Festival celebrated since UNESCO inscribed the social practices of the Chinese people in celebrating the traditional New Year on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
