Inside Ukraine: Lynsey Addario and Laetitia Vançon at Leica Gallery New York
Wednesday, March 19, 2025

NEW YORK, March 11, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Leica Store & Gallery New York is excited to present Inside Ukraine, a powerful dual perspective of the ongoing war in Ukraine through the lenses of renowned photojournalists Lynsey Addario and Laetitia Vançon. Capturing the resilience and heartbreak of Ukrainian citizens amid the Russian invasion, the exhibition offers a stark portrayal of how daily life continues amidst the devastation of conflict. Opening on Thursday, March 6, 2025, the exhibition explores the untold and often overlooked stories of those living in the midst of war, offering a rare window into their lives and dreams.

Inside Ukraine pairs the perspectives of Lynsey Addario and Laetitia Vançon, offering a nuanced portrayal of the war in Ukraine. Vançon's lens focuses on the quieter, yet no less poignant, moments in Odesa, where life persists against the backdrop of war. Through her intimate portraits, we witness young Ukrainians engaging in familiar daily activities, finding normalcy in a world altered by conflict. Her photographs, including those of soldiers, dancers, and couples, provide a glimpse of humanity's persistence in the face of uncertainty.

In stark contrast, Addario's images transport us to the front lines, where the brutality of war is ever-present. From the bloodied casualties to the resilience of those who persist, Addario's photographs capture the harrowing reality of life at war. Her work also delves into the personal story of two-year-old Sonya Liakh, whose rare form of cancer was left untreated due to the disruption caused by the invasion. Addario's compelling images, featured in The New York Times in October 2024, highlight the fragile intersection of life, death, and hope amid the violence.

The exhibition will be on view from March 6th through April 20, 2025. Additionally, on April 3(rd) Leica will host former New York Time Magazine Director of Photography, Kathy Ryan to moderate a special evening of conversation with Lynsey Addario and Laetitia Vançon as they discuss their current exhibition. This in-depth discussion will offer insight into the artists' creative processes, the challenges of photographing conflict, and their experiences in Ukraine.
