Notice of Privacy Incident, March 14, 2025 -- Legal Aid of Western Missouri

Kansas City, Missouri - On or around April 30, 2024, Legal Aid of Western Missouri ("Legal Aid"), became aware of unauthorized activity on their computer network and immediately began investigating with the assistance of third-party computer forensic specialists. The investigation determined that certain data was accessed by an unauthorized party between December 1, 2023, until May 9, 2024. Legal Aid then began a comprehensive review of the files at issue with third-party specialists to determine the type of information contained therein and to whom the information related. The type of information potentially impacted, which varies by individual, may include one or more of the following: name, address, Social Security number, driver's license or state identification card number, financial account number, financial account routing number, medical information, health insurance information, passport number, taxpayer identification number, U.S. Alien Registration number, and/or payment card information.
In response to this event, Legal Aid has implemented additional security measures intended to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future and will continue to monitor and enhance its security measures. Although Legal Aid has no evidence of actual misuse of information as a result of this event, Legal Aid notified potentially impacted individuals out of an abundance of caution.
Legal Aid has established a hotline to answer questions about the event and to address related concerns. The number for the hotline is 1-833-799-3793. As a best practice, individuals are encouraged to remain vigilant against incidents of identity theft by reviewing credit reports, account statements, and explanation of benefits forms for suspicious activity and to detect errors. Individuals may also place a fraud alert or credit freeze by contacting the credit reporting agencies: TransUnion 1-800-680-7289, P.O. Individuals can further educate themselves regarding identity theft, fraud alerts, credit freezes, and steps to protect their personal information by contacting the credit reporting bureaus, the Federal Trade Commission ("FTC"), or their state attorney general.
