Iontra and Salom Announce USB Power Delivery (PD) Charger With Revolutionary Charging Capabilities
Tuesday, March 25, 2025

CENTENNIAL, Colo., March 17, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Iontra Inc, a Colorado-based leader in next-generation battery charging technology, and Salom Europe Limited, a global leader in power supply solutions and battery chargers, today announced the unveiling of their first collaboration: an Iontra charge technology-enabled 100W USB Power Delivery (PD) wall charger that enables up to 2x longer cycle life / faster charging for most batteries that use USB PD chargers. The new charger will be demonstrated at the International Battery Seminar & Exhibit at booth no. 607, March 17-20, in Orlando, FL.

"The world has been swiftly adopting USB power delivery for charging millions of products. The charger Salom and Iontra are releasing later this year is very different from the USB chargers in use today. We are very excited to be able to partner with a leading power supply and charger manufacturer relied upon by many global brands," said Jeff Granato, Iontra's Co-founder and CEO. "Salom and Iontra have done the hard work so that product OEMs can deliver dramatically better battery performance in their next product launch after just making a simple software change. The added benefits are improved customer experience and a positive impact on the environment. The introduction of this charger will be a big step for Iontra to achieve our mission of becoming the default charging standard in the industry."

"This is the first of many innovations on our roadmap that will differentiate our solutions by combining the unique technologies and capabilities from our two companies," said Steve Hawes, Managing Director at Salom Europe Limited. "This first charger will offer significant advantages to our customers by maximizing battery charge performance and cycle life, as well as enabling them to accelerate their sustainability goals. It also supports traditional CCCV charging methods, providing compatibility with all battery-operated devices that charge over USB PD."

Salom and Iontra are initially targeting to deploy the advanced charging technology in core applications that could benefit most from the Iontra technology capabilities including e-mobility (safe charging), portable personal care products (fast charging) and commercial drones (cycle life). This first product is planned as a 100W USB PD wall charger with future releases scaling to 240W with the USB 3.1 standard and will be able to support all battery-operated applications and associated value delivery through simple software configuration.

The Iontra + Salom IBSE Demo at IBSE:

-- Iontra's new Pluto-1S50 Evaluation Module will be a part of the
demonstration, which provides a comprehensive overview of this charger's
capabilities in terms of cycle life.
-- Iontra will show an extended cycle life improvement using a Veken Pouch
Cell (3.2Ah, LCO/GR Chemistry), a Pluto-1S50 module, and the Salom
USB-PD Charger which provides Iontra waveform over USB-C cable to custom
        USB-Sink device.
-- With a consistent 90-minute charge time, the Iontra cell reached the set
limit of 80% usable capacity (end of usable life) at a staggering 1,580
cycles compared to the DC control charged cell which reached 80% EOL at
643 cycles with a charge time ranging between 90-180 minutes.
-- Both cells underwent teardown at 75% SOH.
-- In addition, showcasing the unique safety impact of Iontra charge
technology, the Iontra cell at 1,580 cycles observed minimal, flat
lithium plating, as opposed to the control cell at 643 cycles, which
observed thicker and uneven plating growth, indicative of dendritic
        buildup.

Iontra and Salom announced their strategic partnership in April 2024. The two companies are actively exploring the integration of Iontra charge technology into Salom's OEM customer solutions, whether in the charger products or directly in the end customer devices. Iontra's charging technology has demonstrated the ability to more than double the useful life of commercially available Lithium batteries and to charge them more than twice as fast and with greater overall safety.
