Dynamsoft Upgrades MRZ Scanner for Remarkable Text Recognition Accuracy Using Deep Learning Technology
Tuesday, March 25, 2025
VANCOUVER, BC, March 17, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Dynamsoft, a global leader in the capture of barcodes, documents, and IDs, has announced major enhancements to its Machine-Readable Zone (MRZ) scanner SDK, delivering up to a 46% improvement in text recognition accuracy on particularly challenging datasets. Powered by deep learning-based text-line recognition, the latest update introduces a smarter, multi-step recognition workflow, ensuring more reliable results for ID card and passport scanning.
This latest update significantly enhances reading accuracy across three challenging scenarios:
-- Noisy Backgrounds: AI filters visual noise to isolate and extract text
with precision. For example, passports from Canada, the UK, and
Indonesia feature complex background patterns, guilloche designs, and
security elements that can interfere with OCR.
-- Motion Blur: Optimized processing sharpens text clarity in dynamic
environments, making real-time interaction seamless.
-- Touching Characters: Advanced segmentation reliably separates closely
connected characters for better accuracy.
This boost in accuracy is the result of a newly implemented multi-step recognition process, which leverages advanced validation methods to refine accuracy and overcome common OCR challenges. The workflow includes:
-- Text Line Recognition Model - Recognizes an entire text line using an
end-to-end CRNN (Convolutional Recurrent Neural Networks) model,
improving efficiency and accuracy for high-level recognition.
-- Character Validation and Enhancement - Applies feature scoring,
confusable character correction, low-confidence character reanalysis,
and overlapping character matching to refine recognition.
-- Contextual and Linguistic Corrections - Uses regex-based format
correction and a user-defined custom dictionary to enhance recognition
accuracy based on predefined patterns and vocabulary.
"Accurate ID capture is critical to modern digital workflows, from border control to banking," said Amy Gu, CEO of Dynamsoft. "With this latest MRZ scanner update, we're delivering smarter, AI-powered precision that enables developers to build more reliable, automated ID scanning solutions."
