Datacenter Dynamics Makes History with LoneStar - Becoming the World's First Magazine to Reach the Moon
Tuesday, April 1, 2025
Working with Space Startup, LoneStar Holdings Ltd, Datacenter Dynamics (DCD) successfully boards the Intuitive Machines IM-2 lander and becomes the first feature publication in history to reach a lunar outpost.
LONDON, March 24, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Datacenter Dynamics (DCD), the world's largest data center media and events company, has today announced that it is the first publication to have a feature stored on the Moon.
The feature, a profile of efforts to build lunar digital infrastructure, travelled to the Moon on Lonestar Data Holdings' lunar data center. The facility was part of the Intuitive Machines IM-2 mission, which launched on February 26 and landed on March 6. Storage was not impacted by the lander falling on its side. The feature was also beamed back to Earth from lunar orbit, another first for a magazine, globally.
"There are many flavours of data in space from low latency processing and AI training in Earth Orbit to high latency high security data storage from the Moon," Chris Stott, Chairman and CEO of Lonestar Data Holdings. "At every step of the way Datacenter Dynamics have been there reporting on the nuances of this emerging sector. Uniquely, they had the vision to fly with us on our Freedom Data Center payload from launch through LEO, GEO, Cis Lunar, L1, and all these domains to literally be on the Moon with us now."
"We are so excited to reveal that we made it to the Moon," Sebastian Moss, Editor-in-Chief and Publisher at DCD, said. "What better place to store our physical and digital coverage of infrastructure on the Moon, than on the Moon itself? This is a world-first for any journalist or publication, and I'm proud to see the feature see out its mission successfully."
The feature is available in Issue 56 of the DCD Magazine, out today online for free. Physical copies are available at the DCD>New York conference at the Marriott Marquis, Times Square, during the 24(th) - 25(th) March 2025.
