Identity Theft After a Data Breach? Legal Action May Recover Your Losses | Console & Associates

National law firm offers free case evaluations for victims facing the consequences of identity theft.
MARLTON, N.J., March 26, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- With over 300 million Americans impacted by data breaches in 2024 alone, Console & Associates, P.C. is urging identity theft victims to investigate whether their personal information was compromised in one of the hundreds of data breaches that occur annually.
"Many identity theft victims never make the connection between their stolen information and corporate data breaches," explains Richard P. Console, Jr., founder and principal attorney at Console & Associates. "These individuals suffer financial losses, damaged credit, and emotional distress without realizing they may have legal recourse against the companies that failed to protect their data."
How to Determine If You're a Data Breach Victim
Identity theft rarely occurs in isolation. Hackers typically obtain personal information through large-scale data breaches before using it for fraudulent purposes. Console & Associates recommends taking these critical steps if you've experienced identity theft:
1. Check your mail and email carefully - Companies are often legally
required to send notification letters to affected individuals following a
data breach. Email communications are often overlooked as spam and data
breach notification letters sent by U.S. Mail are often discarded
mistakenly as junk mail.
2. Review your credit reports regularly - Obtain free reports from all three
major credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion) through
AnnualCreditReport.com and examine them for unauthorized accounts or
inquiries.
3. Monitor financial statements - Review bank and credit card statements
line by line for suspicious transactions, no matter how small.
4. Place fraud alerts or credit freezes - Consider placing fraud alerts with
the credit bureaus or freezing your credit entirely to prevent further
unauthorized accounts from being opened.
5. File identity theft reports - Report identity theft to the Federal Trade
Commission at IdentityTheft.gov and your local police department.
With nearly three decades of legal experience and over $100 million recovered for clients, Console & Associates provides personalized guidance to data breach victims nationwide.
"The emotional and financial toll of a data breach can be devastating," added Console. "Looking ahead, we anticipate data breaches will continue to escalate in both frequency and sophistication. Our mission extends beyond just legal representation--we aim to empower victims by helping them understand their rights and options while working to restore their peace of mind in an increasingly vulnerable digital landscape."
