Behavioral Health Resources Provides Notice of Data Security Event

Olympia, Washington | April 17, 2025 - Today, Behavioral Health Resources ("BHR") is issuing notice of an event that may impact the security of information related to certain individuals.
On or about November 20, 2024, BHR became aware of suspicious activity in its computer environment. BHR promptly engaged third-party cybersecurity experts to investigate the nature and scope of this event. The investigation determined that on or before November 20, 2024, an unauthorized actor gained access to certain systems and that certain information contained in those systems was accessible.
The investigation did not confirm that any information was actually viewed or taken during the event. Nonetheless, BHR conducted a thorough and comprehensive review to determine what information was accessible and to whom such information relates. While this review was ongoing, on January 17, 2025, BHR posted notice on its website, issued notice to the media in Washington State, and provided notice to its primary federal regulator. BHR recently completed its review and is now providing final notice.
The types of information potentially impacted vary by individual but may include: name, date of birth, Social Security number, medical information, health insurance information, biometric/genetic data, driver's license number/government-issued ID, Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN), electronic/digital signature, username and password/security code, surname/maiden name, and birth/marriage certificate.
BHR is notifying potentially affected individuals via this media release, by posting an updated notice on its website, and by mailing letters to potentially affected individuals for whom BHR has address information. BHR also is notifying appropriate government regulators, as required.
Potentially affected individuals can obtain additional resources, including information on how to protect their personal information, by visiting BHR's website at bhr.org. As a precautionary measure, BHR encourages potentially affected individuals to remain vigilant by reviewing account statements, credit reports, and explanations of benefits forms for unusual activity and to detect errors. Any suspicious activity should be promptly reported to your credit card company, bank, healthcare/insurance provider, or other applicable institution.
BHR takes this event and the security of the information in its care very seriously. As part of its ongoing commitment to information security, BHR is also reviewing its existing policies and procedures and implementing additional administrative and technical safeguards to further secure the information in its care.
