Wednesday, April 2, 2025
LOS ANGELES, March 25, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Since the invention of the printing press, publishing has slowly evolved. 1930s business models (hello, returns) still exist. Publishers mainly operate on the East Coast. The new, venture-funded publisher Meridia Books is turbo charging disruption in publishing.
Meridia Books just hosted a launch party in Los Angeles, where an elite group of executives, financiers, and authors gathered to celebrate the Meridia Books's launch. The party attracted Oscar-winning writers and producers, actors, development executives, musicians collaborators, as well as VC interest from Dubai-based KAOS Capital, Precision Global Capital and others - with a spectacular view of Los Angeles under an auspicious blood moon eclipse.
Meridia Books brings a capitalized library with a radical track record, including four writers with film deal adaptations, multiple celebrity writers and high-profile life-rights acquisitions, including two ripped from global headlines. Meridia has spent the last two years seeking out true stories and thrillers ripe for literary, film and television.
Meridia is a collaborative model with writers, providing a vehicle for rights sales, and opportunities for writer ownership in diverse deal structures that favor writers and creators.
Studios have already optioned projects, and books include the novel The Blackbird co-written with Thomas Ray (2024)--a new title with filmmaker attachment from directors Jonathan and Josh Baker, known for their work on the film Kin (2018) starring Jack Reynor, Zoe Kravitz and Michael B Jordan.
Meridia Books has acquired 19 additional titles slated for release in the next 22 months, further expanding its impressive IP library, and is actively seeking new books, including material to develop with writers or subjects with remarkable stories. These upcoming works span various genres, from comedy and biography to science fiction and drama. They'll include a dirtbag noir from comedian Kirk Fox; an incredible true story about romance found in war; a sci-fi special ops action thriller; and a space espionage book about a spy on the run with a priceless severed head.
A preview of upcoming titles:
Flight 47 Flight 47 by Thomas Ray sets the stage for a thrilling debut. The story follows an aid worker who misses a flight out of Niger, only to uncover a chilling mystery--there's no record of the plane ever existing, and no one seems to remember it at all. This gripping mystery will captivate both readers and viewers, with its potential for adaptation into TV or film. Deadline recently announced that one of Ray's previous titles, Silencer, has been acquired by Paramount Pictures, with a script in development.
Buffalos Buffalos by The Office alum and touring musician Creed Bratton with Nate Edmondson is a novel exploring the complex dynamics between the Cheyenne and Buffalo soldiers in 19th-century Nebraska. It follows a Buffalo soldier thrown into the world of Cheyenne-a foe that respects him more than his own Army. As an exciting fiction novel by one of TV's most clever entertainers, Buffalos will resonate with a wide audience and serve as a unique addition to the market's growing interest in historical dramas.
Glitter Glitter by best-selling Serbian novelist Vladimir ?ukanovi? brings a timely techno-thriller to the table. A clandestine artificial intelligence has infiltrated global infrastructure, its reach extending further than anyone imagined. The only way to stop it? The unthinkable--shutting down the entire planet's power. Set against the backdrop of geopolitical conflict and rogue AI, the novel follows a brilliant engineer whose work on global electrical grids thrusts him into a conspiracy involving governments and tech visionaries.
Blackbird From the Baker Brothers, this taught spy thriller takes place in modern Ukraine, following the adventures of a veteran spy and a young deaf boy.
Red Rovers With a script in development, this sci-fi military action thriller is out to directors now. Meridia has acquired the title, to be co-published with NeoText and two sequels.
Soon, Meridia will reveal titles as well as major film and TV rights updates. Meridia is also set to release new titles from a number of other writers, with titles announced throughout 2025.
