Patent Protection Reinforces Technology Leadership in AI-Driven Automatic Leak Detection Market
SAN JOSE, Calif., July 15, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- In a move that reinforces its position as the leading AI-driven refrigeration management platform for commercial and industrial refrigeration, Axiom Cloud today announced it has been granted intellectual property protection for its system and method for automatic refrigerant leak detection. The U.S. patent establishes formal protection around Axiom's AI-native approach to detecting refrigerant leaks in retail grocery and cold storage facilities, whether or not the facilities have receiver level sensors or refrigerant gas sensors installed.
The timing of this patent protection from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office comes at a critical inflection point where grocery retailers and cold storage operators are rapidly adopting artificial intelligence to manage the most costly systems in their facilities. The patent is particularly significant in 2025 as new EPA and state-level regulations drive unprecedented demand for automated leak detection solutions. It protects Axiom's software-only approach that enables deployment across hundreds of sites without any onsite installation of new hardware or sensors.
"This IP validates the uniqueness of our AI-driven approach to detect refrigerant leaks, whether or not certain sensors are already in place," said Amrit Robbins, CEO and Co-Founder of Axiom Cloud. "Our customers choose Axiom because we deliver measurable business outcomes, not just data visibility or a stream of unhelpful alerts. This IP protection helps to ensure that Axiom can continue to improve its differentiated leak detection capabilities and double down on this feature set that many of our Fortune 500 customers have come to rely on."
Axiom's protected AI algorithms are trained on more than 1,200 site-years of real-world refrigeration data, and a database of over 80,000 anomalies that have been hand-confirmed by U.S.-based refrigeration specialists. In head-to-head comparisons with other industry-leading leak detection solutions (both hardware and software-based), Axiom's leak detection AI algorithms have demonstrated the ability to identify more leaks, detect leaks much sooner, and identify the location of leaks more accurately. Axiom also estimates leak rates (in pounds per day), which helps our customers to prioritize and batch leaks more efficiently. For major grocery chains and refrigerated warehouse operators managing hundreds of facilities, this translates to millions in avoided emergency repairs and reduced refrigerant costs.
The intellectual property protection addresses mounting industry pressures from new federal and state regulations requiring automated leak detection systems, while also helping solve the chronic technician shortage by enabling early-career technicians to succeed with AI-generated diagnostics and repair recommendations.
With operations across hundreds of facilities and contracts with major grocery retailers and cold storage operators nationwide, the patent adds to Axiom's growing IP portfolio as the company continues to innovate in predictive maintenance and energy optimization for commercial refrigeration systems.
About Axiom Cloud: Axiom Cloud is the AI-driven operational intelligence platform for commercial and industrial refrigeration, helping retail grocers and cold storage facilities transform their most critical operations. Its specialized AI analyzes data from refrigeration controllers to detect leaks weeks before they become emergencies, predict maintenance needs, and optimize energy consumption, all without requiring new hardware.
Trained on over 1,200 site-years of refrigeration operations and 80,000+ labeled system anomalies, Axiom's AI delivers measurable business outcomes rather than just data visibility. The platform integrates seamlessly with existing infrastructure and is recognized by both the EPA and CARB as compliant with automatic leak detection requirements.
Founded in 2020 and based in San Jose, Axiom Cloud is backed by Blue Bear Capital, Leadout Capital, Vela Partners, Toshiba Tec, and WindSail Capital. axiomcloud.ai
