Tuesday, September 2, 2025
The two journey together, meeting remarkable personalities, while having an intense love affair
AMHERST, Mass., Aug. 25, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Edward Bruce Bynum, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist and a poet. His most recent book, a novel, is the story of "a little Black kid who grew up in southern California to become a doctor and poet, eventually learning to summon the living force of poetry itself into a body and personality." They tour the world together, meet many remarkable people, including other deeply human, open individuals, as well as other searching, mythic and spiritual personalities.
In "A Thousand Years in the Body," Bynum describes this passionate love affair between the main character and the living, breathing spirit of poetry, now taken on flesh, blood and bone. The book explores both science and mysticism and is told in the flowing lyrical language of poetry itself.
"This is not a story locked into today's headlines," said Bynum. "It is a story of a timeless love between two deeply human souls who find each other and awaken, or reawaken, an immortal passion."
Bynum has previously authored several books on the psychology of dreams, family life and mysticism, as well as many volumes of poetry. He won the 2010 Naomi Long Madgett Poetry Award, a national prize to "recognize and publish an outstanding manuscript by an African-American poet."
"Science and mysticism are perfectly at home with each other here as their adventure is etched on a timeless and transcendental canvas," said Bynum. "This novel is the story of a romance that transcends any one lifetime and love. It is a story of both emotional and spiritual awakening. Dreaming and lyrical mysticism are woven into the storyline."
