Kong Event Gateway Powers Event-Driven Architecture at Scale
Thursday, October 23, 2025
Organizations can now fully productize their real-time data with Kong Event Gateway, available as part of Kong Konnect
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 15, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Kong Inc., a leading developer of cloud API and AI technologies, announced at API Summit 2025 that Kong Event Gateway will be available Q4 2025 as part of Kong Konnect, the unified API and AI platform. This release will enable developers to expose, manage, and secure real-time event streams from Apache Kafka® as Konnect-managed APIs and services.
While streaming data holds enormous potential for enterprises, the complexity and cost of productizing it for different teams, services and customers can be a barrier. Event Gateway helps to remove those barriers by providing one unified workspace to build, govern, secure, expose, and publish Kafka event data just like you can with APIs.
"With Event Gateway, enterprises can start to drive more ROI out of their event data through data productization and monetization," said Marco Palladino, CTO and Co-Founder, Kong Inc. "Customers can continue to de-fragment their data ecosystem by unifying their approach to API, AI, and, now, event data."
With Kong Event Gateway, customers can:
-- Unify the API, AI and eventing developer experience: Platform and
product teams can expose and apply policies to Kafka event streams just
like they do with APIs, LLMs and MCP tools, reducing complexity and
enabling robust governance.
-- Create APIs and services that expose Kafka resources: Expose Kafka as
HTTP APIs or as native Kafka services that communicate over the Kafka
protocol.
-- Optimize Kafka infrastructure: Kong can help reduce the infrastructure
burdens associated with running Kafka through virtualizing clusters and
topics -- allowing multiple teams to safely and reliably share Kafka
clusters.
-- Build data products for easier consumption and/or monetization:
Customers can more confidently productize and expose event streams as
monetized data products for internal and external use.
-- Strengthen security and compliance: Implement consistent role-based
access control, authorization, and encryption across both APIs and
events.
-- Move more event-driven architecture (EDA) workloads to the cloud:
Encryption allows teams to move more EDA workloads into cloud-based
versions of Kafka by enforcing a standard and centralized mechanism for
handling encrypted data across clients.
-- Enable self-service access for agents and LLMs: AI agents and LLM
applications need self-service access to a wide variety of data. Much of
this information resides in event-driven systems but unfederated access
would pose security risks. Konnect's Developer Portal integrates with
Event Gateway, enabling developers, developer and copilot workflows and
AI agents with secure, self-service access to event data brokered by
Event Gateway.
Event Gateway Will Be Available as Part of Kong Konnect
Kong Konnect is the unified API and AI platform designed to support every aspect of modern API and AI connectivity. Enterprises can build, run, discover and govern APIs, LLMs/MCPs, event streams and microservices -- all from a single, globally distributed control plane -- enabling organizations to be ready for the agentic AI era.
