Ohio Employment Report: Employee Confidence Index Inches Up; Fewer Workers Likely to Look For New Jobs
Friday, May 16, 2008
COLUMBUS, Ohio, May 16 /PRNewswire/ -- The Ohio Employee Confidence Index
increased 1.7 points to 43.6 in April, according to the Spherion(R) Employment
Report. The monthly survey conducted by Harris Interactive(R) on behalf of
Spherion Corporation, indicates that although fewer workers are confident in
the future of their current employer, more workers reported that it is not
likely they will lose their jobs in the next 12 months, and fewer workers say
they are likely to look for new jobs.
Results from the Ohio Employment Report:
-- Fifty-six percent of workers are confident in the future of their
current employer, down 12 percentage points from the previous month.
-- More than eight in ten workers (83 percent) believe it is unlikely they
will lose their jobs in the next year, an increase of seven percentage
points from March.
-- Sixty-three percent of workers feel that they are unlikely to look for
a new job in the next 12 months, an increase of six percentage points
from the previous month.
"Although prices at the pump continue to rise and our wallets have taken a
hit by the elevated cost of food, the rebound of this month's Confidence Index
is a much welcomed change," said Robert Schulte, Spherion franchise owner in
Ohio. "I believe that workers have good reason to be confident. Although
Ohio's unemployment rate is higher than the U.S. as a whole, our survey
indicates that more than eight-in-ten workers believe it is unlikely they will
lose their jobs in the next year. Savvy employers that offer their employees
perks such as work/life balance, telecommuting and flexible scheduling will be
ahead of the game when employment picks up."
