KIX Airport Enters 5 Year Agreement to Deploy Syntech ONE as Flagship Member of Global Security Innovation Network
Monday, February 11, 2019

Osaka Airport (KIX) enters into a 5-year agreement to deploy artificial intelligence detection platform Syntech ONE across its security checkpoints.

OSAKA, Japan, Feb. 11, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Artificial intelligence security and defense company Synapse Technology today announced that Osaka's KIX Airport, a flagship member of the Global Security Innovation Network (GSIN), has entered into a 5-year agreement to deploy Syntech ONE across its security checkpoints.

KIX airport is one of the largest airports in Japan. With this commitment to innovation as a flagship member of GSIN, KIX establishes itself as a leader in the security industry and one of the most forward-thinking airports in the world.Their widespread deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) solutions demonstrates their willingness to adapt emerging technologies to aid their security screeners in the detection of prohibited items.

Synapse Technology's AI platform Syntech ONE integrates with new and existing X-ray machines used at KIX security checkpoints. Instead of KIX security screeners relying solely on human cognitive abilities to identify threats like firearms and sharps, Syntech ONE augments and automates the detection of these dangerous items. Syntech ONE has already been widely deployed, having processed over 5,000,000 passenger bags. The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recognizes the value of Syntech ONE and has granted Synapse Technology Corporation a SAFETY Act award for its technology platform. The Global Security Innovation Network consists of partner airports, distributors, equipment manufacturers, and other stakeholders that commit to deploying new and emerging technology in security environments.

Kansai International Airport's purchase of Syntech ONE units coincides with its increase in infrastructure and innovation investments, particularly as Osaka prepares for hosting the 2025 World Expo. As a part of those preparations, KIX is investing over $900M in improvements to the airport and particularly Terminal 1.

Synapse Chief Operating Officer Bruno Faviero said "Bold technology requires bold thinking, and the team at Kansai International Airport has demonstrated their ability to take steps today to get closer to our shared vision of a future where AI can have a positive impact on security, efficiency, and human performance." Bruno added, "We are excited and honored to work with such an innovative organization."

"We're honored to bring this cutting edge artificial intelligence technology to KIX Airport for the next five years. KIX understands the need to deploy innovative software platforms to help their human screeners catch more threats and increase operational throughput" added Synapse President Ian Cinnamon.

Shintaro Tsuruta, of LV3, the Japanese System Integrator working with Synapse Technology in Japan, said "Synapse is a natural partner for us, as our vision and mission are completely aligned. Together with Synapse, LV3 is excited to join the long-term deployment at KIX airport, an innovative global leader in both Japan and Asia. Synapse's solution will be a lifesaver for world-wide airport security."
