NJ Web Design Company Offers Computer Science-Based Scholarship for Women

MONTCLAIR, N.J., Feb. 12, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- According to the nonprofit, Girls Who Code, only 24 percent of computer scientists are female, and that number is in jeopardy of shrinking. To help close the gender gap in technology, Lform Design ( --a full-service digital agency specializing in web design, app development, corporate branding, and digital marketing--is launching a scholarship and paid internship program for young women pursuing a career in computer science or engineering. This annual $2,500 scholarship and internship will be awarded to one rising or currently enrolled female college student.

"We're a NJ-based web design company that specializes in custom web and app development, so we know this industry inside and out," said Lform Design Owner and Creative Director Ian Loew. "We are actively trying to add qualified women to the Lform team, and while we have two amazing women on staff, neither design or code our sites. We see first-hand how web design and development is a male-dominated field, but we want to change that reality. That's why we've created this annual scholarship and internship program--to encourage more female coders and computer scientists to join the computing workforce."

Eligible applicants must demonstrate a commitment to pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in computer science or computer engineering; the student must also be enrolling or currently enrolled in an accredited four-year college or university or two-year college on track to transfer to a four-year school. The selection committee consists of the Lform team. The deadline to apply is April 15, 2019 and the scholarship recipient will be announced May 15, 2019.
"We believe in education and gender equality. As we continue to grow, we are committed to offering a greater a level of support and training to driven young women and help them advance in their STEM-based careers," Loew said.
