Parents Celebrate New Jersey Afterschool Directory Just In Time For Back To School
Wednesday, July 23, 2008
PATERSON, N.J., July 23 /PRNewswire/ -- New Jersey After 3 (NJA3), a
state-wide nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding afterschool
opportunities for New Jersey's youth, and PSE&G, one of New Jersey's leading
businesses, are proud to announce the collaborative launch of the New Jersey
Afterschool Directory: www.njafterschool.org -- the first publicly accessible
online tool (developed in Spanish and English) for finding out-of-school time
programs throughout the state of New Jersey.
The New Jersey Afterschool Directory was funded by PSE&G and developed
under the direction of New Jersey After 3 by Embolden Design, Inc., an
award-winning web-development firm. It is a comprehensive searchable database
populated with information on over 2000 programs throughout New Jersey. It is
a FREE online resource for families in New Jersey who are in need of a safe,
productive place for their kids (grades K-12) before school, after school, and
during the summer.
To spotlight the availability of this new online resource, NJA3 and PSE&G
hosted the first in a series of launch celebrations today. Parents in
Paterson, NJ were invited to an interactive luncheon at the New Jersey
Community Development Corporation, a Paterson based organization dedicated to
housing, education, and community building initiatives.
After an informative welcome from a few local dignitaries, including Mark
Valli, President & CEO of NJ After 3, and Ralph LaRossa, President and Chief
Operating Officer of PSE&G, parents saw firsthand how easy it is to tailor
their directory search to find the best afterschool program for their family
in preparation for the Back To School season.
"This is an exciting time for parents in New Jersey," exclaimed Valli.
"The launch of this directory proves how seriously New Jersey business leaders
are taking the field of afterschool -- and more importantly, how seriously the
field of afterschool is taking Parents' requests to find high-quality
afterschool programs for their kids after 3:00 p.m."
It was the drive to make afterschool programming more accessible for
working parents that prompted PSE&G to donate $450,000 towards the development
of the NJ Afterschool Directory -- considered to be the largest corporate
donation made to support a single afterschool initiative in the state. "PSE&G
is proud to support the development of this great new resource for working
parents in New Jersey," stated LaRossa. "We hope that other business leaders
will follow our example and invest in the field of afterschool too -- as these
programs are critical to workforce development in New Jersey."
