Adaptec Technology Contributes Performance and Functionality in Industry's First Blade Solution with Shared Storage

MILPITAS, Calif., Oct. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Adaptec, Inc. (Nasdaq: ADPT), a global leader in storage solutions, today announced that IBM is integrating its RAID Storage Processor (RSP) technology into the highly- successful IBM BladeCenter S, creating the industry's first fully redundant, shared blade storage system. The Adaptec RAID technology being deployed by IBM is part of the technology portfolio of Aristos Logic Corporation that Adaptec acquired in August 2008.

"IBM has been a valued customer and Adaptec is extremely proud to contribute to IBM's development of such a game-changing product," said S. "Sundi" Sundaresh, Adaptec's president and CEO. "With the deployment of Adaptec's RAID technology in IBM's BladeCenter family, we have taken a significant step in strengthening our OEM business. We are committed to developing data storage solutions that provide the performance, features and efficiencies required to allow global market leaders to compete in the rapidly evolving IT marketplace."

"IBM is once again leading the industry by delivering the most innovative shared storage solution on the market. With shared storage, BladeCenter S can now support nearly any business requirement, including virtualization," said Alex Yost, vice president of IBM BladeCenter. "IBM BladeCenter S, with the Adaptec technology, now provides clients a comprehensive yet simple and easy- to-use solution that delivers six times the storage capacity of competitive blade offerings."

Market research firm IDC reports that blade servers are the fastest- growing segment of the server market with annual growth rates exceeding 25 percent, and that IBM is a recognized blade server market leader. According to Jed Scaramella, senior research analyst at IDC, "Robust adoption of blade server technology continues as large companies look to boost data center efficiency and as server manufacturers roll out new blade server solutions for the SMB marketplace. The incorporation of Adaptec's RAID technology in IBM BladeCenter S further expands the overall value proposition for mid-market customers."

"As the market for high-performing, cost- and energy-efficient blade servers grows around the world, so will the need for equally effective data storage management solutions," said Anil Gupta, vice president and general manager, Adaptec Storage Technology Products line. "IBM's SAS RAID Controller Module is an impressive example of the highly-differentiated products that innovative, customer-centric OEMs can build with the help of Adaptec RSP technology."
