Obamas & Palins Tie in Online Poll: Pick a Candidate Couple as Your Children's Guardians
Tuesday, October 14, 2008

Which Political Couple Would You Trust to Raise Your Kids?

BOSTON, Oct. 14 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Pollsters and pundits have been asking voters myriad questions about the presidential candidates and their running mates this election season. Two top consumer Web sites, Infoplease and FamilyEducation, took a different approach to learning more about people's opinions of the candidates by posing the question, "Which political couple -- the Bidens, McCains, Obamas or Palins -- would you select as guardians for your children?" The votes are still coming in, but in just the first week of the poll, more than 2,500 visitors to the two sites have voted and, just like in the race for president, the results show the candidates neck and neck. At press time, visitors to the trusted reference site, Infoplease, were evenly split between Barack and Michelle Obama and Todd and Sarah Palin as their top choices. Joe and Jill Biden and John and Cindy McCain were tied for second place.

The race was not quite as close on popular parenting site FamilyEducation. More than 45 percent of parents who visited that site for practical advice and fun activities for their kids selected the Obamas as the guardians for their children, closely followed by 36 percent picking the Palins. The McCains were their third choice, with 12 percent of the vote, and the Bidens trailed behind with only 7 percent.

"This poll is an interesting perspective on what visitors to our two very different sites think about the candidates, their families and their lives," said Jess M. Brallier, Publisher, Infoplease and FamilyEducation. "When comparing their views at this point in the poll, the clear conclusion is that the lines on this decision aren't drawn across political parties -- but perhaps rather by age. Our poll respondents are choosing the younger candidate couples as guardians for their children."

The polling will continue until 11:59 p.m. ET on Nov. 3, and up-to-the-minute results can be viewed on both sites. To participate in the Infoplease poll as well as learn more about where the candidates stand on the top issues, go to http://www.infoplease.com/poll/political-couples-guardians. Infoplease features a breakdown of presidential candidates Sen. McCain and Sen. Obama's views on a wide range of hot topics, including Iraq, energy, the environment, immigration, education, health care and taxes.
