#1 Gift Recommendation Site Survey Reveals a Surprisingly Optimistic America This Holiday Season

NEW YORK, Nov. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Despite the current economic woes, Americans appear to be optimistic about the holidays according to the 2008 Gifts.com Survey on Holiday Shopping conducted by Zogby International. Gifts.com, the #1 gift recommendation and advice site, found that even with stock prices falling, 401(k)s disappearing and a general financial uneasiness, a majority (53%) of people don't plan on skimping when it comes to the Holidays.

"The results of our survey, while somewhat surprising given the economic climate, give us confidence in this Holiday season," said Gifts.com CEO Jason Rapp. "Although many Americans are working more and making less, when it comes to the Holidays, people still want to give their friends and family gifts they will love and remember."

In response to this year's unprecedented economic state, Gifts.com polled the nation to find out what, and how, Americans plan to gift this Holiday season.

Showcasing the true power of online gift buying, over 80% of Americans say they shop for Christmas gifts online. 57% of those who will shop online are likely to do so while at work! 47% of those respondents said the reason they shop online during the Holidays is for the convenience of being able to do their shopping 24 hours/day, 7 days a week. Despite the early sales and deals this year, a majority (55%) of respondents still plan to do their shopping in December. In addition, 11% plan to do their shopping on either "Black Friday/Cyber Monday" or Christmas Eve.

Overall, America won't let the economic ruin ruin the Holidays. Some key findings are:

-- What recession? More than half (53%) of respondents will be spending
just as much or more this year as they did last Holiday season. Of those
who aren't, 21% plan on cutting back because they are actually
        making less than last year.
-- Quality and also Quantity! While they might not be eliminating people
from their Holiday gift list, 32% of Americans suggest spending less on
each person is the best way to save money. Another 29% suggest taking
advantage of special Holiday offers and free shipping.
-- Don't forget the pet! 44% of Americans said that they plan to shop
for their pet or for the pets of close friends and family.
-- Green Giving! Incorporating the popular Green movement into the
Holidays, many are thinking eco-friendly, 25% of Americans say they are
likely to give recycled or reusable products as gifts.
-- Married people plan ahead Married people are the most likely to purchase
their Holiday gifts throughout the year (24.6%).
-- The hardest to shop for is the closest to home As it turns out it's
not the estranged cousin that America finds the hardest to shop for,
        it's their own parents (12%) and in-laws (10%).
-- Everybody agrees Grandma and Grandpa are easiest to shop for! Only 2.6%
of respondents don't know what to get their Grandparents.
-- They'll love this! When respondents have found friends and family
tough to buy for, 51% will give what they like for themselves.
