Carbonite Announces Online Backup Partnership With LaCie
Thursday, November 20, 2008
BOSTON, Nov. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Carbonite, Inc., the leading provider of
online backup to consumers and small businesses, announced today it has signed
a partnership agreement with LaCie, a leading manufacturer of computer
peripherals, to power LaCie One Year Online Backup. The one-year unlimited
online backup, powered by Carbonite, is bundled with the purchase of eligible
LaCie consumer external storage hard drives.
"We are very pleased that LaCie decided to power its external hard drive
online backup with Carbonite," said David Friend, co-founder and CEO of
Carbonite. "We take pride in our mission to offer the most secure and
simplistic backup solution available. LaCie's dedication to quality data
storage products is a natural extension to our backup service and we look
forward to similar partnerships in the future."
Launching this month, LaCie One Year Online Backup will be available
worldwide to PC users who purchase a LaCie consumer external hard drive, with
a version for Mac users to be released at a later date. Available at no charge
for the first year, LaCie One Year Online Backup will offer unlimited backup
of photos, music, financial records and other irreplaceable files. After the
one-year subscription included with purchase, users will be able to continue
backing up their LaCie hard drive for just $99.95 per year.
"Taking into account the quality of information users place on our drives,
we wanted to go beyond our expertise in hardware to provide the best options
to our customers," said Philippe Spruch, LaCie CEO. "LaCie One Year Online
Backup provides one year of unlimited online backup to showcase the importance
of backup strategies that keep data safe and our dedication to helping users
get there."
LaCie One Year Online Backup installs with just a few clicks and runs
quietly in the background, continually backing up the selected folders
whenever the computer is connected to the Internet. Data is encrypted before
leaving the local hard drive and is transmitted to the secure data center
using HTTPS (SSL) for total privacy. The automatic data encryption and backup
occurs while the computer is idle and does not interfere with the computer's
or external hard drive's performance.
LaCie Online Backup is available in eight languages: English, French,
Spanish, German, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese and Swedish. Users in
multi-lingual countries such as Canada, Belgium and Switzerland have their
choice of language at the time of the PC setup process.
