Online Media Site's Launch in Metro Chicago Gives Student Athletes New Forum to Showcase Athletic Talents
CHICAGO, Dec. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- http://www.Jookt.com has launched in metro Chicago, giving thousands of area athletes, fans, coaches, boosters and family members a new forum to nationally highlight local high-school athletic talent. Jookt.com has revolutionized the way high school athletics are covered by delivering insightful, high-definition video content and unfiltered, real-life experiences unlike anything else. The interactive media site is dedicated entirely to high school sports, and now Jookt is giving Illinois students the power to generate much of the site's main content. As a free, user-driven site, Jookt showcases videos of high school students doing everything from making amazing, game-winning plays, to trash-talking a rival, to downing a huge volume of calories in the school cafeteria.
"Jookt isn't about standings and stats or covering games play-by-play. Instead, Jookt is a combination of SportsCenter and YouTube because we create our own unique programming and much of the content is uploaded by student athletes themselves," said Jeff Bennis, CEO of Jookt. "Jookt is particularly exciting for athletes whose sports may not always get the kind of public attention that the basketball or football teams get in the Chicago area. We feature all sports played by high school athletes, no matter how under-recognized that sport might be."
In addition to student-uploaded videos, Jookt is producing original programming that features compelling Chicago area high school sports stories, including:
-- A segment about the student manager program for special needs students
at Riverside Brookfield High School. The highly popular students are a
staple of the athletic department and serve as managers for their
football and boy's basketball teams.
-- A produced piece about the New Trier High School's SALT
(Student-Athlete Leadership Training) Program, which exists to help
develop the leadership skills needed by young student-athletes.
-- A story about the "Fab 4" girls basketball players at Whitney
Young High School who helped lead their team to last year's state
championship. The "Fab 4" has played together since freshmen
year and all are set to play for top college basketball programs next
year.
These stories and others, as well as user-uploaded videos, make Jookt a prime online destination for Chicago-area high school students.
To celebrate the Illinois launch of Jookt.com, the company will bring its production-studio-on-wheels, the Jookt Airstream trailer, to several area high schools. While the Jookt trailer is in metro Chicago, students, parents and fans are invited to stop by to enter contests for cash, win free prizes and even have a chance to be featured on the site. The Jookt trailer will be at the following Chicago-area locations:
-- New Trier High School, Dec. 8-10.
-- Loyola Academy, Dec. 11-13.
"Chicago high school sports are the stuff of legends," said Bennis. "Some of the country's greatest athletes have come from the Windy City, so we're thrilled to launch Jookt into this community."
